Stunning Mountain of Xieng Khaeng 5 Days / 4 Nights
Start-Finish: Muang Sing town or Luang Namtha town
Duration: 5 days / 4 nights
Departure: 7:00 am from Luang Namtha town or 8:30 am from Muang Sing town
Difficulty: Moderate and some difficulty, short hill climbs and descents
Trip Overview:
Stunning Mountain of Xieng Khaeng5 days trek in the northern of Laos are available in the Xieng Khaeng Region. This area just opened for tourists and almost all ethnic villages (mainly Akha) are still very traditional. Enjoy one hour on a slow boat up or down the Mekong River and stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the Mekong River.

Day 1: Muang Sing Town-Ban Pha Kham. Approx. 5-6 houses
8:00 AM start from our office in Muang Sing Town or 7:00 AM from Luang Namtha by 4WD sort stop some villages, next up to the higher mountain in Muang Sing passing Ban Mueto Kao, Ban Ja Phou Thone, Ban Ja Kham Lue and Ban Som Phan Mai they are Akha, next start trekking to Bna Pha kham the village we stay overnight for today.Adventure trek in Luang Namtha, Laos

While waiting for dinner visit the villages walk around and meet the people, learn about traditional Akha. After dinner you will receive a massage which is traditionally given to the guests staying overnight in the village.

Day 2: Ban Pha Kham-Ban Done Chai. Approx. 5-6 houses
After breakfast, around 8:30 start trekking to Ban Ja Vath (Akha), after lunch trekking up and down with the great view of the mountain, the Mekong River and down to Ban Don Chai (Akha and Tai Doy) located on the bank the Mekong River where we stay overnight for the first day.

After dinner you will enjoy traditional music and receive a massage which is traditionally given to the guests staying overnight in the village.

Day 3: Ban Done Chai-Ban Pha Ngoue. Aprox. 5-6 houses
After breakfast, around 8:30 start by slow boat up to the Mekong River an hour, you will see the exciting views of limestone rocks, and the boat will stop in Ban Nam Kong (Akha), an hour trekking on the bank of the Mekong River to visit Ban Pha Yha Luang Kham Ping (Akha). After lunch trekking to Ban Pha Ngoue (Akha) where the tour overnight for today.

Day 4: Ban Pha Ngoue-Ban Mai Kong. Approx. 5-6 houses
After breakfast, around 8:30 start trekking on the dirt road visit Ban Ja Kham Lue (Akha) picnic lunch will provide on the trail, next visit Ban Sam Sob (Akha), visit Ban Mai Kong (Akha Village) the village we overnight for today.

Day 5: Ban Mai Kong-Muang Sing Town. Approx. 5-6 houses
After breakfast, around 8:30 start trekking visit Ban Ja Kuen (Akha), picnic lunch on the trail. After lunch get the car back to Muang Sing or Luang Namtha where you stated trekking and sort stop visit some Akha villages. The villages and the area above just open for tourists, almost ethnic groups are Akha and still very traditional.

Price Including:

Additional trip information
When packing for a trek, keep it simple. The fewer luggages you have to carry around, the more you will enjoy yourself. Wear a good pair of running shoes or lightweight trekking shoes.
Bring a small backpack which should contain following items:
  • Shoes; a good pair of running shoes are perfect, or even better are the lightweight trekking boots.
  • Absolutely essential are sun protection (sun lotion as well as a sun hat.) and mosquito repellent. Mosquito nets are provided in the lodges.
  • Warm sweater or pullover during the cold season (October/November to February)
  • Flash light
  • For women a sarong if you wish to shower at the waterfall.
  • Sweets or snacks for your own consumption if you wish.
  • Special medication, if needed. The guides are equipped with a basic first aid kit.
What You Don’t Need:
  • Blankets are provided, so there is no need to bring a sleeping bag.
  • Mosquito nets are provided.
The adventure treks only open from October to next year month June. During the cold season from December and January, we recommend a fleece and long pants as temperatures can drop down a lot at night. In the hills and mountain of Northern Laos especially Xieng Khaeng Region, Luang Namtha temperature can drop down as low as 5o Celsius (40 o Fahrenheit) at night or early morning hours, so be prepared!
The hike can be strenuous, therefore suitable for people in good physical condition. Expect to walk 5-6 hours per day during of the program.
Village accommodation: participants must be aware that there are no western-style toilets and washing facilities. Sleeping is on a bamboo floor, dormitory style. Sleeping bags, foam mats and mosquito nets are supplied.
Trekking itinerary is a basic guideline only and subject to change.
All trekking areas are supervised by Laos Tourism Administration, which means all areas are frequented by tourists.
